The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that Black like Me founder, Herman Mashaba, has made himself available to run as DA Mayoral Candidate in Joburg\u00a0 in 2016.<\/p>\n
“I have decided to announce that I am making myself available as Mayoral Candidate for the DA for Joburg 2016,” the DA quoted Mashaba saying on social media site, Twitter.<\/p>\n
“For too long I have watched from the sidelines at how corrupt & self-serving ANC politicians have mismanaged Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
“I believe that it is time that hard working & honest people make themselves available for public service,” Mashaba said.<\/p>\n
“It is my hope that the city will once again be the beacon of light for the whole of Africa.”<\/p>\n
Mashaba launched Black Like Me in 1985,\u00a0 turning it into a multi-billion rand company and household name in South Africa.<\/p>\n
The entrepreneur recently co-authored a book called Black Like You and is CEO of Lephatsi Investments, which operates in the mining, construction, and logistics sector.<\/p>\n
The municipal elections are expected to take place in May 2016.<\/p>\n
