Tesla Motors is planning to open an office in South African in early 2016, aimed at providing its energy storage solutions to local consumers and businesses.<\/p>\n

Htxt reported that<\/strong><\/a> the local Tesla Motors office will be run by Evan Rice \u2013 the current CEO of GreenCape and a board member of the International Cleantech Network.<\/p>\n

\u201cTesla will have one employee here from mid-January,\u201d Rice told htxt.africa, \u201cBut if we can find some solid business cases and get them going we will be expanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tesla told BusinessTech earlier in 2015 that the company had no plans to bring Tesla vehicles to the country.<\/p>\n

“We have no plans to enter the market in South Africa in the short term. While it is Tesla\u2019s intention to be present eventually in nearly all countries, it will take some time to get there: we simply do not have the resources to tackle all challenges at the same time,\u201d Telsa told BusinessTech.<\/p>\n

However, a spokesperson for the company told MyBroadband in May that its home battery system would be hitting South African shores in 2016.<\/p>\n

The Tesla\u00a0Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels and powers your home when the sun goes down.<\/p>\n

MyBroadband has recently received information that the first Powerwalls have already landed in the country. The photo below shows local distributor Rubicon showing off one of the units.<\/p>\n
