Eskom CEO Brian Molefe\u00a0says that the handover process is overrated, following the sudden resignation of Roman Crookes, project director at the Medupi power station.<\/p>\n
In a radio interview on 4 January, Molefe said that Crookes, who was due to leave Eskom at the end of January, would leave immediately.<\/p>\n
He said Crookes has chosen to pursue an opportunity abroad, having been involved with the Medupi project for nine years.<\/p>\n
He will be replaced by Phillip Dukashe, a former power station manager, who has been working for Eskom for 22 years, Molefe told Radio 702.<\/p>\n
Molefe was appointed as Eskom CEO after former CEO Tshediso Matona was suspended in March 2015. He was previously CEO at Transnet.<\/p>\n
Molefe said he does not believe in the handover period, calling it ‘overrated’, adding that he did not have a handover when he was made Transnet CEO.<\/p>\n
He said that Crookes’ departure is not a crisis, with many other able managers working on the project.<\/p>\n
Medupi Power Station is set to be completed by 2019\/20, and Kusile in 2020\/21, following numerous delays. Medupi\u2019s Unit 5 is scheduled to go online in 2017, and Kusile’s first unit also in 2017.<\/p>\n
Molefe said he does not expect load shedding in the early part of 2016, following constant\u00a0 blackouts that plagued the country last year.<\/p>\n
