The DA\u2019s billboards commenting on joblessness under President Jacob Zuma\u2019s ANC government are racist, the ANC said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“Even in that message in the billboard, its depiction, if nothing else, expresses the character of a racist party. In their narrow view, unemployment in this country is caused by a black government,” party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Thursday, the DA unveiled two billboards in central Johannesburg critical of Zuma and the ANC.<\/p>\n

One of the two billboards had the words “More people jobless under Zuma\u2019s ANC and counting…” on a yellow background, above a photo of a smiling Zuma. The second billboard, next to the first one, reads “Vote DA for change that creates jobs”.<\/p>\n

The billboards, on the corner of Jeppe and Sauer streets, had a live ticker of the number of unemployed people in the country.<\/p>\n

Kodwa said the DA had failed to appreciate the damage caused by a minority government during apartheid. He said the opposition party had tried various gimmicks before to discredit the ANC.<\/p>\n

“Apartheid is still alive because racism is in the DNA of the DA,” he said.<\/p>\n
