The City Press has reported that South Africa\u2019s state schooling system faces a shake-up, where students will be divided into three tiers based on their ability.<\/p>\n
According to the report, a scholar\u2019s aptitude will be used to place them into one of three streams: academic<\/strong>, technical occupational,<\/strong> or\u00a0technical vocational.<\/strong><\/p>\n The technical occupational stream<\/strong> is aimed at producing students who can leave matric and immediately enter the workplace, with skills like spray painting, woodwork, and hairdressing.<\/p>\n The academic stream<\/strong> will resemble the current schooling system, with a focus on academic studies.<\/p>\n The technical vocational stream<\/strong> will include subjects like engineering and technical drawing, and will be aimed at students who want to study trades like boiler making and fitting and turning after school.<\/p>\n The new schooling system will be developed this year, and will be piloted in 58 schools in 2017.<\/p>\n The new plan is similar\u00a0to what the DA proposed<\/a><\/strong> in its educational and values charters.<\/p>\n The DA said every child under a DA government would have the opportunity and proper career guidance to develop their potential.<\/p>\n The DA policy states that learners with academic interests and abilities would be catered for in top-quality academic schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cWell-equipped technical schools<\/strong> would teach our future artisans and engineers, and vocational schools<\/strong> would provide skills and broader opportunities to learners in the calling of their choice,\u201d said the DA.<\/p>\n SA mathematics and science is getting worse<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Your matric certificate has no value: report<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n SA bottom of global maths and science list<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\nSimilar to DA\u2019s schooling plans<\/strong><\/h3>\n
