the SABC: DA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA said it wants to privatise the SABC as part of its vision for government, set out in its Vision 2029 document.<\/p>\n<p>It said it would sell the SABC as various commercial entities, with licence conditions that would mandate the entity to produce radio and television content geared towards public benefit, and not just profit.<\/p>\n<p>Icasa and the Competition Commission would oversee the process to ensure a diversity of ownership and voices in the SABC.<\/p>\n<p>Its plan to sell the SABC is just part the DA\u2019s larger aim to streamline the government.<\/p>\n<p>The DA promised to do away with the separate Ministries of Communications, and Telecommunications and Postal Services, and merge them into a new Economic Infrastructure Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>This new ministry will encompass the mandates from the following existing ministries and programmes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Ministry of Communications.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Ministry of Telecommunications and Postal Services.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Public Sector Information Communication Technology <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Management Programme from the Department of Public Service and Administration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The State Security Agency\u2019s National Communications Centre.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Ministry of Transport.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The mandate of the Department of Public Enterprises for the management of Transnet and SA Express, as well as for South African<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Airways, from the National Treasury.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A number of government departments will function under this new merged ministry, including a reimagined and renamed Department of Information and Communications Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Both the departments of Communications and Telecommunications and Postal Services will be collapsed into the new department of ICT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis department would regulate, develop, and legislate all of the infrastructure that information and communications technology runs on in the
