Eskom is in financial straits and looking at options to make up the billions of rands it has in lost revenue and debt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ratings firm, Moody&#8217;s continued to lay the pressure on South Africa as it reported that the country&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/economy\/2016\/02\/05\/moodys-takes-tougher-line-as-it-flags-higher-risk-of-downgrade\" target=\"_blank\">weak growth outlook will hobble its ability to raise tax revenues and take measures to tackle the effects of severe drought. <\/a><\/strong>With the country on the cusp of being cut to junk status, that outcome looks more likely than ever.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The South African rand was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR&amp;view=12h\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>flat on Friday after strengthening to around R15.85 to the dollar on Thursday, and jumping up to R15.91 in overnight trade.<\/strong> <\/a>On Friday morning, the currency was at R15.90 to the US dollar, R23.14 to the pound and R17.80 to the Euro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global markets, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharenet.co.za\/news\/Nikkei_falls_for_4th_day_as_strong_yen_hits_US_jobs_in_focus\/a16903330fc5c1a08f77110ecd7bc60d\" target=\"_blank\">Asian equities were subdued on Friday and the dollar wobbled ahead of the closely watched U.S. jobs report<\/a><\/strong>, which could provide clues on the Federal Reserve&#8217;s monetary policy outlook. Japan&#8217;s Nikkei share average fell for a fourth day, while<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharenet.co.za\/news\/Wall_St_opens_lower_after_weak_economic_data\/e728bfc7274dcdfe2117ef7554631425\" target=\"_blank\"> weak US economic data pushed Wall Street down on Thursday<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Crude oil futures held steady in lacklustre trading on Friday as Asian liquidity faded ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday across large parts of the region.
