{"id":112093,"date":"2016-02-11T08:35:28","date_gmt":"2016-02-11T06:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=112093"},"modified":"2016-02-11T08:35:28","modified_gmt":"2016-02-11T06:35:28","slug":"5-important-things-you-need-to-know-before-the-jse-opens-today-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/112093\/5-important-things-you-need-to-know-before-the-jse-opens-today-2\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things you need to know before the JSE opens today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening in the markets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2016\/02\/11\/Sona-2016-Zuma-expected-to-deliver-toughest-speech-yet\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>President Jacob Zuma is set to deliver his toughest State of the Nationa Address this evening, with political, social and economic odds stacked against him<\/strong>.<\/a> The president faces the hellish task of painting a pretty picture of South Africa amid endemic corruption in government, crawling economic growth, high levels of unemployment and a waning support base.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/economy\/2016\/02\/11\/anomalies-not-zumas-address-delay-stats-sa-report\" target=\"_blank\">Employment figures from Stats SA have been delayed due to &#8220;anomalies&#8221;, with the group denying it has anything to do with President Zuma&#8217;s SONA event<\/a><\/strong>. The data with the latest employment figures from Q4 2015 were due on Tuesday, but the stats group needs more time to &#8220;identify anomalies&#8221;. Unemployment at the end of Q3 stood at 25.5% by the broad definition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL8N15Q0DS?sp=true\" target=\"_blank\">South Africa&#8217;s rand gained against the dollar on Wednesday as fears about the global economic outlook eased, while stocks ended a touch higher<\/a><\/strong>. The rand is trading at R15.92 to the dollar, R23.13 to the pound and R17.97 to the euro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global markets, stocks again faced a tough time as investors continued seeking safety in the Japanese Yen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-02-10\/yellen-signals-fed-rate-path-hinges-on-whether-turmoil-persists\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Comments from US Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen that rates would be kept open for further hikes, caused the US markets to lose previous gains<\/strong>.<\/a> Yellen also pointed to worries over futher economic weakness ahead. Global stocks have dropped around 10% since the start of 2016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharenet.co.za\/news\/Oil_prices_fall_on_US_storage_glut_ongoing_economic_woes\/a5e2f5e80d2da990acf84ea104860de3\" target=\"_blank\">Oil prices took another slide on Thursday, due to record US crude inventories and worries over global economic slowdown weighed<\/a><\/strong>. Benchmark crude was down 17 US cents to $30.67, while US crude slipped to $27.01. Oil prices have fallen beneath $30, from $50 the same time last year. as a result, local fuel prices are currently showing a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cefgroup.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Daily-10-02-2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">significant over-recovery of around 50 cents for both 93 and 95 LRP<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news:<\/strong> The Competition Tribunal has rejected opposition to Altech Autopage&#8217;s plan to sell of its mobile subscribers.
