{"id":112611,"date":"2016-02-15T08:41:07","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T06:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=112611"},"modified":"2016-02-15T08:41:07","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T06:41:07","slug":"5-important-things-you-need-to-know-before-the-jse-opens-today-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/112611\/5-important-things-you-need-to-know-before-the-jse-opens-today-3\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things you need to know before the JSE opens today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what is happening in the markets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/economy\/2016\/02\/15\/zuma-releases-report-that-calls-for-partial-privatisation\" target=\"_blank\">President Jacob Zuma has released a report advocating partial privatisation through listing and the sale of equity in some state-owned companies.<\/a><\/strong> Over 100 business leaders met with Zuma in the past few weeks with a plan to salvage South Africa&#8217;s ailing economy &#8211; addressing management problems in state-owned companies was one of the eight main focus points.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/business\/financial\/2016\/02\/15\/new-rules-lead-to-surge-in-jse-red-cards\" target=\"_blank\">The JSE is sending more than 40% of the annual financial statements from its listed companies back for review.<\/a> <\/strong>The companies have not complied with a new rule the JSE introduced which involved the disclosure of interest in other entities and the fair-value measurements. The rule is in-line with international standards of reporting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South African stocks ended a tough\u00a0week with\u00a0the biggest daily percentage gain since\u00a0late January. This was thanks to\u00a0a rally in commodity prices which boosted\u00a0mining shares- however, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR&amp;view=1W\" target=\"_blank\">the rand was slightly weaker. The rand is trading at R15.78 to the US dollar,<\/a> <\/strong>R22.93 to the pound and R17.72 to the euro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global markets, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL8N15U08K?sp=true\" target=\"_blank\">Asian shares bounced back after a five session losing streak as a &#8220;strong fix&#8221; for China&#8217;s currency and a return from the Lunar New year took helped matters<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; while in the USA, Wall Street rallied also ending a losing streak, boosted by a rebound in financial and commodity shares<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-02-14\/oil-resumes-drop-as-iran-loads-post-sanctions-cargo-to-europe\" target=\"_blank\">Oil prices continued to drop below $30 a barrel as Iran loaded its first cargo to Europe<\/a><\/strong> since international sanctions against the nation ended. US oil for March delivery slid to $28.95 a barrel, while Brent Crude for April dropped to $32.67.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news:<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biznews.com\/leadership\/2016\/02\/15\/named-van-rooyens-two-gupta-advisors-who-almost-hijacked-sa-treasury\/\" target=\"_blank\">South Africa&#8217;s four-day finance minister David van Rooyen has been linked to the Gupta family <\/a><\/strong>through two of his &#8220;advisors&#8221; who accompanied him to National Treasury.
