{"id":112615,"date":"2016-02-15T10:06:45","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T08:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=112615"},"modified":"2016-02-15T10:06:45","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T08:06:45","slug":"the-list-of-anc-members-who-said-zuma-owes-nothing-for-nkandla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/112615\/the-list-of-anc-members-who-said-zuma-owes-nothing-for-nkandla\/","title":{"rendered":"The list of ANC members who said Zuma owes nothing for Nkandla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several Sunday newspapers published an articles explaining how ANC MPs feel betrayed by president Jacob Zuma over Nkandla.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday Times said that the president angered senior figures in the ANC after ignoring advice from its national executive committee to take the public protector&#8217;s Nkandla report on judicial review.<\/p>\n<p>Zuma&#8217;s advocate, Jeremy Gauntlett, conceded in the Constitutional Court last week, that a report by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela recommending that the president pay back a portion of R246 million spent on upgrades to his homestead in KwaZulu-Natal, was binding and the president would pay back some of the money.<\/p>\n<p>In October, <a href=\"http:\/\/mini.iol.co.za\/news\/politics\/the-mps-who-let-zuma-off-the-hook-1904181\" target=\"_blank\">IOL published a list <\/a>of the ANC members who voted to adopt a report by Police Minister Nathi Nhleko, which cleared<span class=\"st\"> Zuma of any liability for Nkandla.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It noted that 199 members of the ANC voted in favour of accepting Nhleko\u2019s report, while 92 MPs, all from the opposition, voted against the the report.<\/p>\n<p>Just over 100 members of the 400-member National Assembly did not vote.<\/p>\n<p>The City Press last week reported members as being \u201cpissed off \u2013 all of them&#8221; &#8211; feeling like they had been thrown under the bus on the Nkandla matter. &#8220;People are feeling used and abused,&#8221; a senior ANC member told the paper, after Nhleko&#8217;s report was disregarded in court.<\/p>\n<p>Those who originally voted in favour of Nhleko\u2019s report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cyril Ramaphosa<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0Deputy President<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phumelele Sizani<\/strong> &#8211; Chief Whip<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lynette Brown<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Public Enterprise<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fikile Mbalula<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Sports<\/li>\n<li><strong>Derek Andr\u00e9 Hanekom<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Tourism<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lindiwe Nonceba Sisulu<\/strong> &#8211; Human Settlements Minister<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blade Nzimande<\/strong> &#8211; Minister for Higher Education<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robert Davies<\/strong> &#8211; Trade and Industry Minister<\/li>\n<li><strong>Susan Shabangu<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Women in the Presidency<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ebrahim Patel<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Economic Development<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elizabeth Dipuo Peters<\/strong> &#8211; Minister of Transport<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mildred Nelisiwe Oliphant<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; Minister of Labour<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pakishe Aaron Motsoaledi<\/strong>&#8211; <span class=\"st\">Minister of Health <\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor<\/strong> &#8211; Science and Technology Minister<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azwihangwisi Faith Muthambi<\/strong> &#8211; Communications minister<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mbangiseni David Mahlobo<\/strong> &#8211; <span class=\"st\">Minister of State Security<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nhlanhla Nene<\/strong>, the former minister of finance, now infamous due to his sacking by the president late last year, also said yes to the report.<\/p>\n<p>IOL pointed out that highly respected politician, Paul Mashatile did not say &#8216;yes&#8217; to the report&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Mashatile recently resigned as an MP to join forces with Gauteng premier, David Makhura, as the new MEC for Human Settlements and Cooperative Governance.<\/p>\n<p>ANC MPs are expected to vent their anger toward Zuma at caucus meeting next Thursday, where they will raise the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Zuma said that paying back a portion of the money for Nkandla, was not an admission of guilt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many times when I asked how much I must pay back, but no one knows. There was a political perception I am not going to pay.
