The African National Congress (ANC) said its march for unity and non-racialism to the Union Buildings on Friday attracted 86,000 members.<\/p>\n

ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said that the march was not a protest, but the mobilisation of society against racism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ANC calls for South Africans to move beyond merely identifying racism as a persisting challenge to uniting in action and to completely eradicate it together with all other forms of discrimination,\u201d said Mantashe.<\/p>\n

A string of high-profile ANC leaders took to the stage at the Union Buildings to slate opposition leaders and defend President Jacob Zuma against “hooligans”, News24 <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n

Earlier in February, thousands of members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) marched through the streets of Johannesburg in protest of President Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n

In January, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said as many as 20,000 members took part in a march through the Johannesburg CBD.<\/p>\n

The march was part of a new campaign focusing on economic growth and job creation, with the unemployment rate currently above 25% in South Africa.<\/p>\n
