<\/p>\nSouth Africa is expected to see muted job growth in the second quarter of 2016, as companies largely plan to keep staff numbers unchanged.<\/p>\n
This is according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for Q2 2016, which tracks the hiring and firing plans of 752 companies across various sectors in South Africa.<\/p>\n
According to the report, only 13% of employers will be looking to hire new staff between April and June 2016, while a smaller percentage – 8% – are expecting to cut jobs. The vast majority of companies (77%) said that there would likely be no changes.<\/p>\n
The stats give South Africa a net employment outlook of 5% growth – the lowest rate over the past year.<\/p>\n
Most job losses will be within large companies (with 250 employees or more), though it also expects to see the biggest increase – with net employment growth at 12%.<\/p>\n
Regionally, KwaZulu Natal is expected to see job hiring increase by 8%, followed by the Eastern Cape (7%), Gauteng (6%) and the Free State (2%). The Western Cape will remain flat.<\/p>\n
