{"id":115986,"date":"2016-03-09T00:23:25","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T22:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=115986"},"modified":"2016-03-09T00:23:25","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T22:23:25","slug":"meet-south-africas-2016-car-of-the-year-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/115986\/meet-south-africas-2016-car-of-the-year-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet South Africa&#8217;s 2016 car of the year winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa&#8217;s 2016 Wesbank Car of the Year (CoTY) was announced at a gala dinner at Emperor&#8217;s Palace, Gauteng on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The competition comprised 12 finalists, following a vote by members of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ).<\/p>\n<p>The winner on the evening was the <strong>Volvo XC90<\/strong> SUV, followed by the <strong>Ford Fusion<\/strong>, while the <strong>Mazda2<\/strong> took third place.<\/p>\n<p>The Porsche Macan S Diesel won the 2015 prize for best car in SA.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/motoring\/industry-news\/how-sa-car-of-the-year-is-decided-1994514\" target=\"_blank\">IOL<\/a>, the new scoring system for 2016 focused on categories, rather than giving each individual car an overall score as had been the case in the past.<\/p>\n<p>The categories included: interior design &amp; practicality, exterior aesthetics, safety &amp; technology, performance, handling &amp; dynamics, efficiency, value for money and overall excellence.<\/p>\n<p>The judging panel consisted of 26 motoring journalists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winner &#8211;
