{"id":116220,"date":"2016-03-10T14:18:01","date_gmt":"2016-03-10T12:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=116220"},"modified":"2016-03-10T14:18:01","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T12:18:01","slug":"watch-movies-the-same-day-they-release-in-theatres-from-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/116220\/watch-movies-the-same-day-they-release-in-theatres-from-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch movies the same day they release in theatres from home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Napster co-founder and former Facebook president Sean Parker is working on a new online media service called The Screening Room, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/variety.com\/2016\/film\/news\/studios-exhibitors-consider-revolutionary-plan-for-day-and-date-movies-at-home-exclusive-1201725168\/\" target=\"_blank\">Variety reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Variety said the service will let subscribers watch new movies at home the same day they release in theatres.\u00a0This is possible thanks\u00a0to the company\u2019s anti-piracy technology.<\/p>\n<p>Parker is joined by Prem Akkaraju, who is CEO and co-founder of the company.<\/p>\n<p>Akkaraju was a partner at SFX Entertainment and InterMedia Partners, and worked at JP Morgan Entertainment Partners and Sanctuary Music Group.<\/p>\n<p>According to Variety, a set-top box for The Screening Room will cost about $150, and movies will cost $50 per viewing.
