{"id":116310,"date":"2016-03-10T20:34:57","date_gmt":"2016-03-10T18:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=116310"},"modified":"2016-03-10T20:36:43","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T18:36:43","slug":"watch-da-roasts-zuma-in-parliament-over-salary-increase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/116310\/watch-da-roasts-zuma-in-parliament-over-salary-increase\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: DA roasts Zuma in Parliament over salary increase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA\u2019s Chief Whip in Parliament, John Steenhuisen told the National Assembly that president Zuma&#8217;s salary hike was like asking for a raise after crashing the bus.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Zuma&#8217;s many missteps with public money, Steenhuisen said that\u00a0&#8220;with Nkandla, the president drove over us all with a bus &#8211; in December last year, he put the bus in reverse and reversed over all of us, including his own ANC caucus&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The politician said Zuma then &#8220;crashes the bus&#8221; &#8211; and is now expecting to be praised and granted a raise in his salary.<\/p>\n<p>The DA said it opposes the president&#8217;s salary increase.<\/p>\n<p>Zuma&#8217;s salary increase for 2016 was approved by National Assembly this week taking his total pay up to R2.87 million.<\/p>\n<p>The president&#8217;s increase is in line with recommendations made by the\u00a0Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, which stated the president should get a 5% rise.<\/p>\n<p>The DA was not the only party against the president&#8217;s increase:<\/p>\n<p>During the sitting of National Assembly, the EFF put in a motion that Zuma\u2019s salary be cancelled indefinitely, following his admission that he benefited unduly from security upgrades at his Nkandla homestead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe does not deserve a salary,\u201d the EFF said, to cheers from opposition parties.<\/p>\n<p>The ANC objected to the motion, and succeeded in quashing it \u2013 with\u00a0172 members against the EFF\u2019s motion, 81 for, and 4 abstaining.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-video\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">[WATCH] Zuma crashed the bus and now expects tax payers to give him a raise.
