{"id":116902,"date":"2016-03-15T15:38:15","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T13:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=116902"},"modified":"2016-03-15T15:38:15","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T13:38:15","slug":"sa-micro-jobbing-startup-to-close-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/116902\/sa-micro-jobbing-startup-to-close-down\/","title":{"rendered":"SA micro-jobbing startup to close down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African internet micro-jobbing service Money for Jam (M4JAM) has ceased trading after failing to make a profit, the company\u2019s CEO Andre Hugo has told Fin24.<\/p>\n<p>M4JAM was launched in 2014 on instant messaging service WeChat and it enabled users to perform \u2018micro-jobs\u2019 to earn money.<\/p>\n<p>The M4JAM business model was further based on taking a licence fee from clients on every successful completed job.<\/p>\n<p>The startup\u2019s representatives told Fin24 last year that the service surpassed 70 000 users.<\/p>\n<p>WeChat Africa, a Naspers and Tencent joint-venture, also invested into the social jobbing platform.<\/p>\n<p>But despite these developments, M4JAM still ran into problems and it issued a notice to its users on Monday that urged them to cash out before March 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cM4JAM was unable to achieve profitability within the investment time frame,\u201d Hugo told Fin24 via an email response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result the board has decided to cease trading and sell the assets to interested parties over the course of the next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in the process of meeting with a number of interested parties currently. If we are successful the business will be restructured. If not the business will be closed.
