South African jobs can be done by robots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study by Citi and the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford shows that two-thirds of jobs in South Africa are at risk of being replaced by robots.<\/p>\n<p>The report, titled <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk\/downloads\/reports\/Citi_GPS_Technology_Work_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Technology at Work v2.0: The Future Is Not What It Used To Be<\/a><\/strong>, explores some of the most pressing global challenges of the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the research, the authors looked at the probabilities of jobs being at risk across the world \u2013 which is partly caused by automation.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers used data from the World Bank to show that the risks of automation are higher than previously thought.<\/p>\n<p>Advances in technology are now making a broader range of non-routine tasks automatable, with computers substituting for low-income, low-skill workers over the next decades.<\/p>\n<p>The image below shows the risk of jobs being replaced by automation in various countries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-117412\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Protecting against job elimination<\/h3>\n<p>The report found that the following characteristics are the least likely to be associated with a job being automated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perception and manipulation<\/li>\n<li>Creative intelligence<\/li>\n<li>Social intelligence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cCities and regions that have invested in skilled industries remain relatively safe from automation,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>It stated\u00a0that technological dynamism will remain the best way to maximize employment, and will benefit from new technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducation is also a very important tool that policymakers will need to leverage in preparation for the effects of accelerated
