Deputy finance minister, Mcebisi Jonas, is also expected to participate in an investigation in the matter,<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/national\/2016\/03\/23\/jonas-to-spell-out-gupta-ministerial-offer-to-anc\" target=\"_blank\"> detailing the family&#8217;s involvement to a panel set up by the ANC&#8217;s NEC<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Following reports by the Mail &amp; Guardian that\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biznews.com\/briefs\/2016\/03\/22\/anc-denies-reports-zuma-wanted-to-quit-presidency\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jacob Zuma had offered to step down as president of South Africa, the ANC has completely denied that such an offer was ever made<\/a><\/strong>. According to the original reports &#8211; citing several unnamed NEC members &#8211; Zuma told the ANC executive to rather tell him to step down rather than stab him in the back. Media reports ahead of the NEC meeting last week painted a picture of<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/117490\/the-anc-hit-list-the-alleged-anti-zuma-brigade-named\/\" target=\"_blank\"> a divided ANC, with several senior politicians looking to give Zuma the boot<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL5N16V0BK?sp=true\" target=\"_blank\">South Africa&#8217;s rand shed as much as 1% against the dollar on Tuesday with riskier emerging markets on the back foot<\/a><\/strong> as investors sought safe haven assets in the wake of terror attacks in Belgium.\u00a0Stocks also fell after a strong rally last week, with technical factors at play and a rebalancing seen after a futures close out and a market holiday on Monday. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\" target=\"_blank\">On Wednesday the rand was trading at R15.25 to the dollar, R21.65 to the pound and R17.10 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global markets, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/world\/europe\/2016\/03\/23\/brussels-terror-attack-weighs-on-markets\" target=\"_blank\">Islamic State (ISIS) suicide bombers targeted busy transport hubs in Brussels, Belgium, yesterday, killing at least 35 people and injuring 250<\/a><\/strong>. Global markets reacted negatively &#8211; though stronger than expected &#8211; to the news, as tourist and trade markets in Europe sank. This was followed by a drop in US stocks, as investors fled to safe haven assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL5N16V0BC\" target=\"_blank\">Oil prices fell in early Asian trading on Wednesday after\u00a0figures from an industry group showed U.S. crude stockpiles\u00a0rose last week more than expected<\/a><\/strong>, reinforcing concerns that\u00a0supply continues to exceed demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/thetimes\/2016\/03\/23\/Durban-councillors-got-Minaj-tickets---for-R1.7-million\" target=\"_blank\">Durban&#8217;s local government paid R1.7 million to host popular singer\/rapper Nicki Minaj in the city<\/a><\/strong>.
