Forbes has published a list of superyachts owned by some of the world’s prominent billionaires.<\/p>\n

According to the Knight Frank Wealth Report for 2016, luxury yachts are one of the most popular assets among billionaires, particularly those in the Pacific and Europe.<\/p>\n

“In a world where many ultra-high net worth individuals\u00a0are\u00a0cash-rich yet time-poor, yachting continues to provide the ultimate sanctuary for privacy and an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends,” the report said.<\/p>\n

In 2015, Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko upgraded his previous superyacht – a 120 metre beast valued at R4.8 billion – to an even bigger one (pictured above): a three-mast, 143 metre\u00a0monstrosity worth R5.9 billion.<\/p>\n

The current biggest private yacht in the world is the Azzam – a 180 metre ship\u00a0commissioned by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates in 2013.<\/p>\n

The yachts listed by Forbes are not notable for being the biggest or most expensive, but rather shine through because of who they belong to – some of the world richest, and most prominent business people.<\/p>\n
