{"id":12018,"date":"2012-05-11T00:30:15","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T22:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=12018"},"modified":"2012-05-11T10:49:20","modified_gmt":"2012-05-11T08:49:20","slug":"africas-biggest-gdp-players-compared","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/12018\/africas-biggest-gdp-players-compared\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa&#8217;s biggest GDP players compared"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2011, Africa&#8217;s contribution to the global <a title=\"GDP - Gross domestic product\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2676-GDP-Gross-domestic-product\">GDP<\/a> was approximately 3,5% &#8211; and despite showing relatively weak growth projections for the next few years, South Africa remains Africa&#8217;s biggest contributor to the continent&#8217;s GDP.<\/p>\n<p>According the <a title=\"IMF - International Monetary Fund\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2677-IMF-International-Monetary-Fund\">International Monetary Fund&#8217;s (IMF)<\/a> 2011 report, the world&#8217;s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is approximately $69,659.626 billion. Of that total, North Africa (and the Middle East) and Sub-Saharan Africa contribute $1,270 billion and $1,167 billion, reflecting 3,5% of the global GDP.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa is currently Africa&#8217;s biggest contributor to the continent&#8217;s GDP, representing the continent&#8217;s largest economy despite showing relatively low &#8216;real&#8217; growth year-on-year.
