{"id":121069,"date":"2016-04-20T13:23:14","date_gmt":"2016-04-20T11:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=121069"},"modified":"2016-04-20T13:23:30","modified_gmt":"2016-04-20T11:23:30","slug":"telkom-plays-down-role-in-new-mega-fibre-cable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/121069\/telkom-plays-down-role-in-new-mega-fibre-cable\/","title":{"rendered":"Telkom plays down role in new mega fibre cable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom says it hasn\u2019t financially committed to a new African undersea cable despite signing a memorandum of understanding on the project.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Hong Kong ICT firm PCCW released a statement saying that it along with Telkom, MTN, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and Telecom Egypt (TE) signed a memorandum of understanding to build Africa-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Africa-1 submarine cable broadband system is planned to stretch 12 000km from South Africa towards Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan.
