{"id":12128,"date":"2012-05-10T16:03:22","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T14:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=12128"},"modified":"2012-05-11T11:09:57","modified_gmt":"2012-05-11T09:09:57","slug":"africas-mobile-web-traffic-up-156-in-2-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/12128\/africas-mobile-web-traffic-up-156-in-2-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa&#8217;s mobile web traffic up 156% in 2 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile browsing in Africa has surged 155.6% over the past two years &#8211; from 5.81% in 2010, to 14.85%, according to analysis from website monitoring service, <a title=\"Pingdom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2680-Pingdom\">Pingdom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Using data compiled by <a title=\"StatCounter\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2681-StatCounter\">StatCounter<\/a>, Pingdom found that people accessing the web from their mobiles in Asia rose 192.5% over two years to 17.84%, while Europe improved 183.4%, to 5.13%.<\/p>\n<p>North American web traffic from mobile devices accounted for 7.96%, while in South America, it accounts for a mere 2.86%, the study found.<\/p>\n<p>The global average is 10.01%<\/p>\n<p>Pingdom noted that the top countries in the world, ranked by number of mobile phones, sees China at number one, followed by India, United States, Brazil, and Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if we look at the percentage of users that go online with a mobile device compared to with a computer, the list changes,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The group compiled a list of countries with the highest share of mobile traffic as part of total web traffic with Africa amassing six countries, and Asia, four.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>48.87% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0India<\/li>\n<li><strong>47.09% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Zambia<\/li>\n<li><strong>44.95% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Sudan<\/li>\n<li><strong>42.36% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Uzbekistan<\/li>\n<li><strong>40.65% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Nigeria<\/li>\n<li><strong>37.95% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Zimbabwe<\/li>\n<li><strong>35.46% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Laos<\/li>\n<li><strong>34.66% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Brunei<\/li>\n<li><strong>31.79% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Ethiopia<\/li>\n<li><strong>29.2% \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Kenya<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_12145\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Mobile-vs-Desktop-Source-Pingdom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12145\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12145\" title=\"Mobile vs Desktop - Source Pingdom\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Mobile-vs-Desktop-Source-Pingdom.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Mobile-vs-Desktop-Source-Pingdom.jpg 580w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Mobile-vs-Desktop-Source-Pingdom-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mobile vs Desktop - Source: Pingdom<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The first European country is the United Kingdom with 10.71%, and the US showed 8.61% mobile web traffic as share of all web traffic, Pingdom said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s worth noting that Europe scored a 183.43% increase in mobile browsing share over this period, not that far behind Asia.
