{"id":121615,"date":"2016-04-25T15:15:25","date_gmt":"2016-04-25T13:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=121615"},"modified":"2016-04-25T15:15:25","modified_gmt":"2016-04-25T13:15:25","slug":"whites-receive-preference-over-blacks-for-jobs-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/121615\/whites-receive-preference-over-blacks-for-jobs-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Whites receive preference over blacks for jobs: minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African employers who do not meet employment equity criteria as stipulated by law have six months to rectify the situation, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Labour&#8217;s 16th Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) Report, which was launched in Pretoria, shows the country\u2019s labour market transformation is not taking place fast enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Africa\u2019s pace of transformation in the labour market is moving on a stubborn path,\u201d Oliphant said, \u201cespecially at the upper levels of management, where the White group has a tight grip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Companies that don\u2019t rectify the situation within the next six months will face the \u201cfull might of the law\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, white people fill 68.9% of top management positions \u2013 which is more than six times the Economic Active Population of 9.9%.<\/p>\n<p>The term Economically Active Population means people from 15 to 64 years of age who are either employed, or unemployed and seeking employment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is also the case with the Indian group at 8.6% as they have a representation of three times more than their EAP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indians\u2019 Economic Active Population accounts for 2.7%.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite is true for the African representation at top management level at 14.3% and coloured people at 4.7%.
