{"id":122079,"date":"2016-04-29T12:43:45","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T10:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=122079"},"modified":"2016-04-29T12:43:45","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T10:43:45","slug":"banks-decision-on-gupta-company-could-deter-investors-cabinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/122079\/banks-decision-on-gupta-company-could-deter-investors-cabinet\/","title":{"rendered":"Banks&#8217; decision on Gupta company could deter investors &#8211; Cabinet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cabinet was concerned that the decision by the country&#8217;s big four banks to cut ties with the Gupta-owned Oakbay Investments would deter investors, Planning Minister Jeff Radebe said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whilst Cabinet appreciates the terms and conditions of the banks, the acts may deter future potential investors who may want to do business in South Africa,&#8221; he told reporters at Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, he said Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant, and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan had been told to intervene after the banks cut ties with the business.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Bank, FNB, Absa, Nedbank, accounting firm KPMG, and Sasfin Capital severed ties with the Gupta-owned firm due to the family\u2019s questionable involvement in the country\u2019s political affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The ministers were expected to report back at the next Cabinet meeting in two weeks.
