A fresh funding campaign for ‘bullied’ waitress, Ashleigh Schultz, has raised $6,125 (R87,500) of its $10,000 target in three days.<\/p>\n
It follows an amount of R44,777.70 that was raised in an online campaign for Schultz, who was allegedly reduced to tears by #RhodesMustFall activist Ntokozo Qwabe last week.<\/p>\n
The initiative took off after a R50 donation was made by Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz\u2019s spokesperson, Sihle Ngobese.<\/p>\n
Roman Cabanac<\/strong><\/a>, who hosts a CliffCentral podcast called The Renegade Report, thereafter began a Twitter campaign that has raised R44,777.70 for the woman.<\/p>\n The Renegade Report<\/strong><\/a> said the donation will be given to the waitress directly. \u201cWhat she chooses to do with it is her concern, not ours,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n The waitress was allegedly reduced to tears by Ntokozo Qwabe\u201a an RMF leader at Oxford University\u201a who had posted a Facebook rant relaying that he was pleased with not tipping the woman.<\/p>\n He had posted: \u201cWe are out at ObzCafe \u2026 and the time for the bill comes. Our waitress is a white woman. I ask \u2026 what the going rate for tips\/gratuity is in these shores. They look at me very reluctantly and they say \u2018give me the slip\u201a I\u2019ll sort that out\u2019. I give them the slip.<\/p>\n \u201cThey take a pen & slip in a note where the gratuity\/tip amount is supposed to be entered. The note reads in bold: \u201cWE WILL GIVE TIP WHEN YOU RETURN THE LAND\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe waitress comes to us with a card machine for the bill to be sorted out. She sees the note & starts shaking. She leaves us & bursts into typical white tears (like why are you crying when all we\u2019ve done is make a kind request? lol!).\u201d<\/p>\n A new funding page created by Ernst Shea Kruger, a South African living in the US, titled: Tip Ashleigh Schultz: Qwabe’s Server at GoFundMe<\/a>, has already raised more than R85,000 from 285 pledges.
