{"id":122359,"date":"2016-05-04T09:02:51","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T07:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=122359"},"modified":"2016-05-04T09:05:52","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T07:05:52","slug":"ask-anyone-who-knows-me-im-not-a-racist-theunissen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/122359\/ask-anyone-who-knows-me-im-not-a-racist-theunissen\/","title":{"rendered":"Ask anyone who knows me &#8211; I&#8217;m not a racist: Theunissen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African Human Rights Commission will investigate a Facebook post made by Capetonian Matthew Theunissen, in which he used racist language.<\/p>\n<p>Theunissen&#8217;s post went viral over the long weekend, after the he went on a racist rant in reaction to sports minister Fikile Mbalula banning South Africa from hosting any international sports competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Theunissen appeared on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.capetalk.co.za\/articles\/13265\/i-am-not-a-racist-and-i-will-regret-it-for-the-rest-of-my-life-matt-theunissen\">Cape Talk radio on Tuesday<\/a><\/strong> and said his rant was born out of frustration with the current politics in the country, as well as being unable to find work in the past year because he is white.<\/p>\n<p>He insisted he was not a racist, and apologised for the comments, saying he would regret it for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did type those words but I immediately regretted it. The language I used is extremely hurtful and inappropriate,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I reacted by deleting the post. Unfortunately it got to everyone. I really didn\u2019t intend to say those words, I will regret it for the rest of my life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Theunissen said that he was not referring to black South Africans at large &#8211; only government.
