The DA has again accused President Jacob Zuma of being a thief, while the ANC has accused the opposition leader of being a “black human cloak” for his party.<\/p>\n
The parties were giving their submissions during the Presidency\u2019s budget vote in Parliament on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu questioned why the DA had a black leader.<\/p>\n
“The DA believes it can hide behind a black human cloak to perpetuate white supremacy and protect white privilege,” he said.<\/p>\n
He said he sympathised with DA leader Mmusi Maimane, who he said was presiding over a party whose members were self-declared racists.<\/p>\n
The DA took the opportunity to attack Zuma, calling him a thief and “accused number one”.<\/p>\n
With numerous objections from the ANC, Maimane called Zuma the “it wasn’t me” thief.<\/p>\n
From his relationship with Schabir Shaik, to the corruption charges, to “undue pressure” on the National Prosecuting Authority, the DA detailed their objections to the budget.<\/p>\n
“Because this is a man whose answer to every single allegation is, ‘It wasn\u2019t me’. The Gupta landing at Waterkloof? It wasn\u2019t me. Al-Bashir\u2019s escape? It wasn\u2019t me. The millions spent on Nkandla? It wasn\u2019t me,” Maimane said.<\/p>\n
Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli said there was a difference between debate and insults.<\/p>\n
Maimane was forced to add “alleged” as he called Zuma “accused number one”.<\/p>\n
“The truth is that this man is a thief.”<\/p>\n
IFP’s Narend Singh objected to the president being labelled a thief, with DA MPs lambasting him.<\/p>\n
“He must withdraw. It’s not an allegation, it’s a statement,” Singh said.<\/p>\n
