much money the SA presidency pays its staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 663 staff members in the Presidency, excluding the president and deputy-president, share a pot of R329 million when it comes to their annual remuneration.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to a report in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sowetanlive.co.za\/news\/2016\/05\/05\/what-the-presidencys-r500m-budget-is-spent-on...\" target=\"_blank\">TimesLive<\/a>, which noted that the Presidency was allocated R499.7 million in this year\u2019s budget\u201a up from a revised R448.3 million in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The average pay in the Presidency amounts to<strong> R<\/strong><span id=\"cwos\" class=\"cwcot\"><strong>496,229<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In its annual report for 2014\/15, the Presidency noted that it had 670 staff members broken down into the following qualification levels.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>32<\/strong> Interns<\/li>\n<li><strong>8<\/strong> Occupation-Specific Dispensation (OSD) employees<\/li>\n<li><strong>50<\/strong> Lower skilled employees (levels 1-2)<\/li>\n<li><strong>117<\/strong> Skilled employees (levels 3-5)<\/li>\n<li><strong>220<\/strong> Highly skilled producers (levels 6-8)<\/li>\n<li><strong>163<\/strong> Highly skilled supervisors (levels 9-12)<\/li>\n<li><strong>80<\/strong> Senior managers (levels 13-16)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The compensation excludes the salary of president, Jacob Zuma, and his deputy, Cyril Rampahosa.<\/p>\n<p>The National Assembly approved a 5% salary hike for president Zuma in March, taking his annual salary to <strong>R2.87 target=\"_blank\">Government vs private sector salaries in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Research conducted by StatsSA showed that the average monthly earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural sector in South Africa, is R17,517.<\/p>\n<p>This amounts to an annual salary of R<span id=\"cwos\" class=\"cwcot\">210,204.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to research published by the Development Policy Research Unity from the University of Cape Town, the real monthly wage of an average public sector employee is R11,668 compared to R7,822 for an average private sector worker.<\/p>\n<p>The report said that public sector workers are more unionized than private sector workers, which gives them more power to negotiate wages.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More on SA
