The paper noted that 38 additional stations were added in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>City Press noted that Ukhozi FM is the biggest radio station in South Africa, attracting 7.5 million listeners per week on average.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Radio Audience Measurement Survey (Rams) figures, as reported on by the City Press, showed that\u00a0Ukhozi FM took first spot by several hundred thousand weekly listeners.<\/p>\n<p>The SA Advertising Research Foundation estimates that local radio had 37.6 million listeners in 2015 \u2013 making it\u00a0the most consumed form of media in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The top radio stations in South Africa, based on weekly listenership, are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Ukhozi FM<\/strong> \u2013 7.5 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metro FM<\/strong> \u2013 6.8 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Umhlobo Wenene FM<\/strong> \u2013 4.6 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lesedi FM<\/strong> \u2013 4 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Motsweding FM<\/strong> \u2013 3.1 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thobela<\/strong> \u2013 3 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jacaranda FM<\/strong> \u2013 2 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kaya FM 95.9<\/strong> \u2013 1.8 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>5FM<\/strong> \u2013 1.8 million<\/li>\n<li><strong>RSG<\/strong> \u2013 1.7 million<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The bulk of these stations belong to the SABC which lists the following radio stations\u00a0 among its properties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5FM<\/li>\n<li>Radio 2000<\/li>\n<li>RSG<\/li>\n<li>SAFM<\/li>\n<li>Lotus FM<\/li>\n<li>Metro FM<\/li>\n<li>Ukhozi FM<\/li>\n<li>Good Hope FM<\/li>\n<li>TruFM<\/li>\n<li>Lesedi FM<\/li>\n<li>Ligwala Gwala FM<\/li>\n<li>Thobela FM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In March this year, Icasa announced that holders of public sound-broadcasting service licences must play at least 60% South African music.
