Economic Freedom Front (EFF) leader Julius Malema says that whites still rule in Cape Town, a city which represents and \u201cremains a colony\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a rally in Gugulethu on Sunday, Malema said he aimed to improve on the popularity of the party in the metro – having received 2.7% of the vote in 2014, reported by the Cape Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is not transformed. It is still in the hands of the white minority. Whites rule here in Cape Town, we want to transform this place, but we can\u2019t transform this place if we are not part of the municipality,\u201d said Malema.<\/p>\n The politician said that \u201cwhite monopoly capital\u201d was centred in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, and that \u201cthe whole of South Africa\u201d was controlled from the Boland town.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is too much land in the Western Cape, the problem is that it is owned by foreign people.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we take over the province, we will expropriate it without compensation and give it to the people<\/strong>,” he said.<\/p>\n Malema described Cape Town as \u201ctwo nations in one city\u201d – the wealthy and the poor.<\/p>\n He accused the government of investing in unimportant infrastructure like bicycle lanes and the Gautrain at the expense of the poor.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a lot of money in Camps Bay; the rich people must pay for water and electricity of poor people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe rich must be ashamed of being rich, if you are truly ashamed then pay an extra R200 to take care of the poor.<\/p>\n \u201cLet those who benefited from apartheid contribute to the well-being of the poor, they are always saying sorry –\u00a0well sorry is no longer enough,\u201d Malema said.<\/p>\n Malema also called Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane a puppet. \u201c[Helen] Zille is the real leader; Maimane is just there to draw a salary.<\/p>\n \u201cHe must stop the white people from controlling him,\u201d Malema said.<\/p>\n Watch: We want to take this country by 2019 \u2013 Malema<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Malema\u2019s chilling violence threat to South Africa<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\nMore on Malema<\/h3>\n
