Vodacom says that it has 14.2 million smart devices on its network in South Africa, consuming an average of 572 MB per month.<\/p>\n
South Africa’s biggest mobile operator published results for the year ended March 2016, on Monday, noting a healthy rise in new subscribers in SA of 2.1 million, to 34.2 million.<\/p>\n
Shameel Joosub, Vodacom Group CEO told BusinessTech that for contract customers, the average monthly usage climbs to 1.2 – 1.3 GB, but is device dependent.<\/p>\n
He said devices like the iPhone consumed up to 1.5\u00a0GB a month.<\/p>\n
Vodacom said that total Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) declined 0.9% year-on-year to R112<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Active prepaid customers increased 7.6% to 29.3 million, while active contract customers were flat at 4.9 million; but contract churn fell from 9.2% a year ago to 8.5%, Vodacom said.<\/p>\n “We have migrated 85% of contract customers to new price plans with better value offerings.
