The City of Tshwane will on Thursday ask the Constitutional Court for leave to appeal a high court ruling that it had to stop removing Pretoria\u2019s old street names.<\/p>\n
On June 2, 2015, the High Court in Pretoria denied the city leave to appeal a judgment it handed down on April 19, 2013.<\/p>\n
In the 2013 judgment, the city was ordered to stop removing the names and replace the ones it had already removed. The case was brought by civil rights group AfriForum.<\/p>\n
On August 3, 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed the city’s application for special leave to appeal the high court\u2019s ruling. It then approached the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n
AfriForum had argued that the metro council followed incorrect procedure when it changed the names and that its actions were thus illegal.<\/p>\n
