However,\u00a0doubts remain, as the National Prosecuting Authority had previously confirmed that a docket had been handed to them seeking Gordhan&#8217;s arrest. News around Gordhan vs the Hawks typically has an adverse effect on South African markets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/business\/companies\/nigeria-halts-talks-with-mtn-over-39bn-fine-2024705\">MTN has hit another barrier in\u00a0Nigeria as the country puts the company&#8217;s $3.9 billion fine on hold while it investigates the matter<\/a><\/strong>. MTN, which has had the fine hanging over its head for the\u00a0past seven months, has suffered greatly because of the fine &#8211; having lost a third of its value on the markets as a result &#8211; and will be further frustrated by the delay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South Africa&#8217;s rand strengthened on Friday, shrugging off\u00a0renewed dollar strength as technical factors and a recovery\u00a0in risk appetite globally helped the unit recoup recent\u00a0losses, while stocks were lifted by demand for\u00a0commodities. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Monday the rand was trading at R15.64 to the dollar, R22.71 to the pound and R17.56 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news,<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL5N18G1HK\">\u00a0Asian shares rose on Monday after a solid session on Wall\u00a0Street, while the dollar moved away from recent highs<\/a><\/strong> though\u00a0remained supported as investors bet that the U.S. Federal\u00a0Reserve was on track to raise rates sooner rather than\u00a0later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN0YE01A\">Oil prices slipped in Asian trade on Monday on a strong\u00a0dollar and signs that global crude supply is holding up<\/a><\/strong> even\u00a0as volumes hit by unplanned outages rise to at least\u00a0five-year highs.\u00a0Brent futures were down 18 cents at $48.54 a barrel, while US\u00a0crude futures fell 26 cents to $48.15 a barrel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news: <a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2016\/05\/23\/NPA-boss-to-announce-decision-on-Zuma-corruption-charges\">It is D-day for the National Prosecuting Authority to announce its way forward in the Jacob Zuma spy tapes saga<\/a><\/strong>.
