{"id":124549,"date":"2016-05-23T10:36:50","date_gmt":"2016-05-23T08:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=124549"},"modified":"2016-05-23T10:41:53","modified_gmt":"2016-05-23T08:41:53","slug":"npa-to-appeal-zuma-corruption-charges-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/124549\/npa-to-appeal-zuma-corruption-charges-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"NPA to appeal Zuma corruption charges ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams has announced that the authority will be appealing the High Court ruling which deemed the dismissal of 783 charges of corruption against president Jacob Zuma irrational.<\/p>\n<p>Abrahams was speaking at a press briefing on the case, held on Monday (23 May 2016).<\/p>\n<p>After much consideration &#8211; and after obtaining legal advice from senior counsel &#8211; Abrahams said that the ramifications of the ruling were far-reaching, and impacted every prosecution in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe it needs the decision of an appeal court,&#8221;\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>Abrahams said he was aware of his decision and how it would resonate in the various sectors of society\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0he was aware of the calls for the Court ruling to stand,\u00a0but added that he faced equal calls for the decision to be reversed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No decision will please all of the people &#8211; but it&#8217;s not my job to make everyone happy,&#8221; Abrahams said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will always do what is correct, irrespective of whether the individual is an ordinary person, a cabinet minister or a sitting president,&#8221;
