In a statement, the presidency said that the ruling affects Zuma directly, and the president believes the Court erred on several aspects of its ruling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/economy\/2016\/05\/24\/ratings-agency-reprieve-is-probable-and-plausible\">Economists are surprisingly optimistic that South Africa will avoid a ratings downgrade to junk in June 2016<\/a><\/strong>. Ratings agencies S&amp;P and Fitch have South Africa one notch above junk &#8211; the former with a negative outlook &#8211; though prominent economists say it is plausible and possible for the groups to give the country a conditional reprieve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South Africa&#8217;s rand weakened nearly 1 percent on Monday as\u00a0the dollar gained on rising expectations of a US interest\u00a0rate hike, while mining shares were hit by softer commodity\u00a0prices. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Tuesday the rand was trading at R15.79 to the dollar, R22.87 to the pound and R17.71 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL5N18K2XN\">Asian shares fell to near 10-week lows on Tuesday and the\u00a0US\u00a0dollar pared some of its recent losses<\/a><\/strong> as investors\u00a0worried about the likelihood of a US interest rate\u00a0increase in coming weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN0YF01D\">Oil prices fell in thin trade on Tuesday as the US dollar\u00a0strengthened, but losses were curbed by a likely drawdown in\u00a0US crude and gasoline stockpiles<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0Brent futures had declined 24 cents to $48.11 a barrel, while US\u00a0crude futures dropped 20 cents to $47.88 a barrel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/business\/international\/legos-toys-not-as-innocent-as-they-used-to-be-2024975\">A new study by New Zealand researchers has found that children&#8217;s toys are becoming increasingly more &#8216;violent<\/a>&#8216;<\/strong>.
