The SABC said that showing violent protests encouraged others to do the same. It said that by not showing them, it will send a message to protesters that their actions won&#8217;t get attention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/business\/energy\/2016\/05\/27\/fuel-fund-defends-selling-of-reserves\">The state fuel fund has defended the sale of 10 million barrels of reserve oil, denying that fuel security in the country has been compromised<\/a><\/strong>, and even though it has less than a day&#8217;s worth of reserves in case of an emergency, government can tap into privately held reserves if needs be. The CEF said the country has 90 days&#8217; worth of stock in reserve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">South Africa&#8217;s rand firmed late on Thursday as improved\u00a0global risk appetite helped shift focus away from the\u00a0possibility of a credit downgrade<\/a><\/strong>, while stocks also rose as\u00a0retailers reported robust sales. On Friday the rand was trading at R15.55 to the dollar, R22.81 to the pound and R17.40 to the euro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL5N18O0AH\">Asian stocks pulled ahead on Friday after US data continued\u00a0to put the economy in a positive light<\/a><\/strong>, while the dollar was\u00a0on the defensive against major peers.\u00a0Wall Street treaded water on Thursday following two days of strong gains as advancing defensive sectors offset declines in materials, banks and other cyclical industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN0YI01L\">Oil futures fell further in Asian trade on Friday after\u00a0running into resistance at the $50 a barrel mark<\/a><\/strong>, as\u00a0investors worried higher prices could reactivate shuttered\u00a0crude output, adding to global oversupply.\u00a0Brent crude\u00a0fell 36 cents to $49.23, retreating further from the previous session&#8217;s $50.51 peak.\u00a0US crude dropped 35 cents to $49.13 a barrel after touching $50.21 on Thursday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biznews.com\/briefs\/2016\/05\/26\/solidarity-afriforum-goes-legal-racial-quotas-govt-interference-sport\/\">Union Solidarity has an extensive legal plan to tackle racial quotas and government&#8217;s meddling in sport<\/a><\/strong>.
