{"id":124947,"date":"2016-05-27T11:24:40","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T09:24:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=124947"},"modified":"2016-05-27T11:28:19","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T09:28:19","slug":"south-africas-fuel-reserves-are-safe-but-theres-a-r3-4-billion-catch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/124947\/south-africas-fuel-reserves-are-safe-but-theres-a-r3-4-billion-catch\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s fuel reserves are &#8220;safe&#8221; &#8211; but there&#8217;s a R3.4 billion catch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Energy Fund has defended the\u00a0sale of South Africa&#8217;s entire oil reserve, saying that the country&#8217;s fuel security hasn&#8217;t been compromised as the government still has access to reserves.<\/p>\n<p>BDLive revealed on Thursday that the department of energy had sold 10 million barrels of South African oil reserves, leaving the country with only 300,000 barrels in stock &#8211; enough for less than a day, if an emergency situation arose.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Alliance pointed out that the stock was sold in December at a price of $28 a barrel, totalling almost R5 billion.
