{"id":125003,"date":"2016-05-29T19:30:03","date_gmt":"2016-05-29T17:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=125003"},"modified":"2016-05-27T16:54:08","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T14:54:08","slug":"7-of-the-best-job-perks-offered-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/125003\/7-of-the-best-job-perks-offered-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"7 of the best job perks offered in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From medical aid to free food and booze, there are plenty of jobs out there that offer more than a paycheque at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>But some South African companies go beyond the &#8220;typical&#8221; perks and promise a bit more than free coffee to their employees.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs portal CareerJunction has filtered through its job data and provided BusinessTech with a list of some of the most amazing job perks offered by companies in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Medical aid contributions are one of the most common benefits offered to employees, CareerJunction found, with retirement contributions also being a\u00a0fairly common benefit offered.<\/p>\n<p>But there were a few unusual perks which stood out &#8211; here are 7 of the coolest job perks offered in SA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food glorious food<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Burger.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-86386\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Burger.png\" alt=\"Burger\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Burger.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Burger-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With inflation and rising food costs, many companies are starting to add food as benefits and incentives. After Medical and retirement, food and &#8220;great coffee&#8221; are among the most common benefits being offered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alcohol allowance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Shooters.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-95227\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Shooters.png\" alt=\"Shooters\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Shooters.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Shooters-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If free food is not enough, one listed benefit (for a job in consumer development) also offers an alcohol allowance. Allowance implies that there is a limit, so it&#8217;s not quite an &#8220;open bar&#8221; policy, but with the recent jump in sin tax, this benefit may appeal to those who like to indulge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gym Membership<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Tech-exercise.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-57221\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Tech-exercise.png\" alt=\"Tech exercise\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Tech-exercise.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Tech-exercise-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If food and alcohol are\u00a0the opposite of what you want, many companies across sectors and skill levels in South Africa offer free gym membership &#8211; either to company gyms, or popular gym groups like Virgin Active or Planet Fitness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100% Gautrain costs paid<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Gautrain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2999\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Gautrain.jpg\" alt=\"Gautrain\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Gautrain.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Gautrain-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another common company benefit is access to a company care &#8211; or in one case listed, access to a &#8220;pool car&#8221; for business use. However, a benefit unique to Gauteng, a few companies are offering to pay 100% of employees&#8217; Gautrain costs. No mention of paying e-toll fees, however.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tax-free salary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tax.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-74538\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tax.png\" alt=\"tax\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tax.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tax-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were at least three job listings offering a tax-free salary at the end of every month. The catch: the positions are for Qatar. Local companies looking to outsource some South African talent to Qatar are also willing to pay for flights, visas and accommodation in the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28 days of leave<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Beach.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-107507\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Beach.png\" alt=\"Beach\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Beach.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Beach-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Paid leave in South Africa is between 15 and 21 days, depending on where you&#8217;re working and what work you do. The position was for a technical supervisor millwright.
