Airbnb, the application based hospitality company, says that the typical South African host who shares space in their home boosts their yearly income by more than R28,000.<\/p>\n
In 2015 there were 7,500 active hosts in the country, and almost half were freelancers, entrepreneurs, or self-employed.<\/p>\n
Airbnb said that 66% of hosts in SA share space in their primary residence.<\/p>\n
The company said that more than 130,000 guests have stayed in a listing on Airbnb in South Africa in the last year alone. This number represents a 250% increase in travellers on Airbnb compared to 2014.<\/p>\n
It further noted that the average host is 44 years old, while the average age of guests making use of the app, is 37.<\/p>\n
