{"id":125305,"date":"2016-06-01T12:39:19","date_gmt":"2016-06-01T10:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=125305"},"modified":"2016-06-01T12:39:19","modified_gmt":"2016-06-01T10:39:19","slug":"this-is-what-government-bought-with-your-tax-money-in-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/125305\/this-is-what-government-bought-with-your-tax-money-in-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"This is what government bought with your tax money in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stats SA has released the financial report for National Government for the 2014\/15 financial year, revealing where all your tax money is being spent.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, an increase in tax collection in the past financial year led to a total income of R1.02 trillion, with taxes accounting for R986 billion of that figure, with the balance coming from grants and other sources.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest government expense is in grants &#8211; financial awards to various programmes, business and otherwise, that are non-repayable &#8211; took a massive R685 billion chunk of available funds.<\/p>\n<p>This is followed by social benefits (R126 billion) and employee compensation (R123 billion) which were the next biggest expenses by national government.<\/p>\n<p>After interest, subsidies, purchases and other payments are taken into account, national government started the new financial year with a net outflow of R150 billion, R2.2 billion more than the start of the 2014\/15.<\/p>\n<p>Taking into account the cash flows from other financing activities &#8211; such as a net inflow of R181.5 billion worth of incurred liabilities and the acquisition of R4.1 billion worth of assets &#8211; national government&#8217;s\u00a0net change in stock increased to\u00a0R12.4 billion for the year.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-new-size wp-image-125323\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending-640x467.png\" alt=\"Government spending\" width=\"640\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending-640x467.png 640w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending-768x560.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending-140x102.png 140w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Government-spending.png 858w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purchases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National government purchases amounted to R63.3 billion in the 2014\/15 financial year.
