{"id":125587,"date":"2016-06-03T14:09:46","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T12:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=125587"},"modified":"2016-06-03T14:09:46","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T12:09:46","slug":"beware-this-new-hijacking-scam-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/125587\/beware-this-new-hijacking-scam-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Beware this new hijacking scam in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Ballito based security company and police on Friday warned motorists that stopping to help someone on the side of the road may not be a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>Viva Security head JP Viljoen cautioned motorists after a discovering a dummy on Compensation Road that appeared to have been intended to trap unsuspecting motorists.<\/p>\n<p>The dummy was found \u201cstrategically placed\u201d near a pavement, with the head not visible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We received a call and sent a reaction team out there. The body turned out to be fake.<\/p>\n<p>It was stuffed with socks, dressed in a pink skirt, a vest, sports bra, and ladies stockings. Pieces of material had been stuffed into hair nets to form the hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are curious so they stop and have a closer look. It could be anything. A prank device used by kids or it could be hijack attempt,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/dummy-e1464955137503.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-125589\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/dummy-e1464955137503.jpg\" alt=\"dummy\" width=\"600\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He posted the discovery on his Facebook page, and it had since been shared almost 1 000 times and received almost 60 000 views. Viljoen said his WhatsApp group had been inundated with messages from motorists.<\/p>\n<p>He had received calls from colleagues in Pretoria stating they had had similar incidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems like a lot of work went into putting this together. I would advise people not to take a chance. If you see something that looks like a body or distressed person, drive to a safe area and notify the police.
