A Ballito based security company and police on Friday warned motorists that stopping to help someone on the side of the road may not be a good idea.<\/p>\n

Viva Security head JP Viljoen cautioned motorists after a discovering a dummy on Compensation Road that appeared to have been intended to trap unsuspecting motorists.<\/p>\n

The dummy was found \u201cstrategically placed\u201d near a pavement, with the head not visible.<\/p>\n

“We received a call and sent a reaction team out there. The body turned out to be fake.<\/p>\n

It was stuffed with socks, dressed in a pink skirt, a vest, sports bra, and ladies stockings. Pieces of material had been stuffed into hair nets to form the hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are curious so they stop and have a closer look. It could be anything. A prank device used by kids or it could be hijack attempt,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He posted the discovery on his Facebook page, and it had since been shared almost 1 000 times and received almost 60 000 views. Viljoen said his WhatsApp group had been inundated with messages from motorists.<\/p>\n

He had received calls from colleagues in Pretoria stating they had had similar incidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems like a lot of work went into putting this together. I would advise people not to take a chance. If you see something that looks like a body or distressed person, drive to a safe area and notify the police. Unfortunately, it could be a major risk if you stop to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane advised motorists to take extra precautions and not stop in isolated areas, but rather to call police.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes criminals lie on the road pretending as if they area dead and once the motorists stop to assist, the criminals will come and attack them.\u201d<\/p>\n
