South Africa recently dodged junk status<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>when ratings\u00a0agency S&P Global\u00a0held the country\u2019s credit rating at\u00a0BBB-.<\/p>\n

Ratings agency Fitch also recently affirmed SA\u2019s investment grade, keeping its outlook stable \u2013 but warned that\u00a0political and growth concerns should be addressed.<\/p>\n

Analysts and economists expected this, but said\u00a0South Africa needs to do a lot of work to avoid a ratings cut at the end of 2016.<\/p>\n

According to S&P, low GDP is putting the country\u2019s economy at risk \u2013 which is putting strain on businesses and the government.<\/p>\n

Rising political tensions\u00a0were also sighted as accentuating vulnerabilities in the country\u2019s profile.<\/p>\n

A cut to below investment grade would push up South Africa\u2019s borrowing costs, making it harder to plug a budget deficit projected at 3.2% of GDP in the 2016\/17 financial year, reported BusinessTech.<\/p>\n
