{"id":127175,"date":"2016-06-18T15:00:41","date_gmt":"2016-06-18T13:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=127175"},"modified":"2016-06-19T07:20:20","modified_gmt":"2016-06-19T05:20:20","slug":"this-is-the-true-value-of-being-south-african","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/127175\/this-is-the-true-value-of-being-south-african\/","title":{"rendered":"This is the true value of being South African"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residence and citizenship planning group Henley &amp;\u00a0Partners has released its latest Quality of Nationality Index (QNI), showing the value of being\u00a0South African, versus other nationalities in the world.<\/p>\n<p>According to H&amp;P, the QNI measures more than the simple quality of a country, focusing on\u00a0the opportunities and limitations that our nationalities impose on us.<\/p>\n<p>The QNI measures both the internal value of nationality\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0which refers to the quality of life within a nationality\u2019s country of origin\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0and the external value of nationality, which identifies the diversity and quality of opportunities that nationalities allow us to pursue outside our countries of origin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The reality that the QNI describes is in many respects regrettable: in the absolute majority of circumstances our nationality plays an important role in establishing a highly irrational ceiling for our opportunities and aspirations, reflecting the core aspect of being a national of some place, which is a random act of birth boasting no correlation with any person\u2019s achievements, ideas, feelings and desires,&#8221;\u00a0the group said.<\/p>\n<p>Internally, the QNI looks at how successful the country is in terms of human development, economic prosperity and stability and peace.<\/p>\n<p>External factors\u00a0look at home\u00a0nationalities allow its holders to travel all around the world unobstructed, or make tourist and business travel dependent on acquiring endless visas.<\/p>\n<p>In the assessment South Africa is described as a &#8220;medium quality&#8221; nationality,\u00a0ranked 89th overall the lowest position for the nation in the 5 years the index has been running.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Quality-of-Nationality.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-127177\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Quality-of-Nationality-640x595.png\" alt=\"Quality of Nationality\" width=\"497\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Quality-of-Nationality-640x595.png 640w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Quality-of-Nationality-300x279.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Quality-of-Nationality.png 739w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>South Africa performs\u00a0strongest in the fields of human development , stability and peace and diversity of travel freedom, but fall apart in pretty much every other category.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s overall score is 30.0%, which is 0.2 percentage points down from its 2014 position.
