The Mall of Africa, the new development located in the Waterfall Estate between Midrand and Sandton, attracted in excess of 1.5 million feet of traffic in its first full month of trade, according to its management team.<\/p>\n
The mall, located off the N1 highway, can be accessed through 26 entrances; and has 6,800 parking bays. It caused a major traffic jam on its opening on 28 April, 2016.<\/p>\n
The Mall of Africa is 80% owned by Attacq, and 20% owned by Atterbury, and cost R5 billion to build.<\/p>\n
Marijke Arran, a Mall of Africa spokesperson, told City Press<\/a> that the mall forecasts an annual turnover of R2.6 billion for the first year of operation – above expectation.<\/p>\n According to Arran, the foot count for the last three days of April was 285,637, and for May it was 1.364 million.<\/p>\n The foot count tracks the number of people who visit a mall each day. The mall operators said that unique foot traffic for the three days of April and most of May, reached as high as 700,000 people.<\/p>\n Read: This is how many shopping malls are in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Excluding opening weekend, Saturday 7 May was the busiest day at the mall so far, with 68,922 people through the doors.<\/p>\n “Things are starting to calm down a little; however, the mall is still extremely busy over weekends. What is very encouraging is the number of return visitors to the mall.
