{"id":127649,"date":"2016-06-22T12:07:01","date_gmt":"2016-06-22T10:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=127649"},"modified":"2016-06-22T12:07:33","modified_gmt":"2016-06-22T10:07:33","slug":"sabc-in-china-for-broadcasting-lessons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/127649\/sabc-in-china-for-broadcasting-lessons\/","title":{"rendered":"SABC in China for broadcast lessons and training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 3rd forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation is opening up opportunities for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to enter into co-production on matters of mutual interest and training with the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em><strong>SAnews<\/strong><\/em> at the forum, which is currently underway in Beijing, China, SABC\u2019s chief financial officer James Aguma said the forum was significant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe significance of this forum is two-fold\u2026firstly\u2026it is very important for us to understand how other broadcasters are serving their people\u2019s informational and educational needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also here to explore areas of cooperation in the broadcasting industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said there were opportunities for co-production and sharing of experiences in the technological fields \u2013 especially as South Africa is in the process of migrating from an analogue to a digital broadcasting system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe exchange of programmes will certainly cover culture, tourism programme to promote people to relations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the Chinese have an open policy with regards to capacity building, so it would be important to enter into a training exchange programme with them.<\/p>\n<p>Aguma said as the public broadcaster, they are spot on in terms of broadcasting 90% local content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I have learned from the Chinese is that they are very proud about their culture and language because almost 98% of all broadcasting content is local,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) acting Director General Donald Liphoko said there is a growing need for Ministers of Information and Communication to start laying a concrete foundation for ICT think-tanks comprising\u00a0 policy, regulatory and technology professionals to harness the skills available on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>He said this would assist in producing relevant policy-driven studies on the effects of technology to benefit the continent and its citizenry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m saying this because we\u2019re seized with online child protection matters.
