The Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, has unveiled a new anti-racism song which he hopes will tackle ‘the continuing salience of race and racism and the negative role social media has played in spewing racial bigotry’.<\/p>\n
The song titled \u201cNo love, No life\u201d features contributions from musicians Mzwakhe Mbuli, Mbongeni Ngema, with backing vocals from the late Miriam Makeba.<\/p>\n
The song comes at a time when a number of racist incidents have divided the nation. The most high profile case is that of Penny Sparrow, who sparked public outrage when she called a large group of black South Africans on the beach \u201cmonkeys\u201d on Facebook.<\/p>\n
Sparrow was reported the South African Human Rights Commission and was charged with hate speech in the Equality Court. The court found her guilty and fined her R150,000.<\/p>\n
