{"id":128832,"date":"2016-07-01T16:21:29","date_gmt":"2016-07-01T14:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=128832"},"modified":"2016-07-01T16:21:29","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T14:21:29","slug":"here-is-the-expected-petrol-price-for-july-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/128832\/here-is-the-expected-petrol-price-for-july-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Here is the expected petrol price for July 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fuel prices will be up in July, although oil weakness and a stronger rand have kept the increase below the levels predicted in mid-June.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the Automobile Association (AA) which was commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price data provided by the Central Energy Fund (CEF).<\/p>\n<p>The AA noted that in mid-June, petrol was set for a rise of up to 30 cents a litre, and diesel as much as 63 cents, however, the picture has improved slightly over the past two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The rand has firmed significantly against the dollar, trading at R14.50 versus the US unit by late afternoon on Friday, ahead of the expected official announcement by the energy department.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We now expect more moderate increases, with <strong>petrol up around 11 cents a litre, and diesel higher by approximately 43 cents<\/strong>,&#8221; the AA said.<\/p>\n<p>The table below shows what the petrol price and wholesale price of diesel is expected to be in July.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bt_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"6\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th bgcolor=\"#CCCCCC\" width=\"40%\">Fuel<\/th>\n<th bgcolor=\"#CCCCCC\" width=\"30%\">June Inland<\/th>\n<th bgcolor=\"#CCCCCC\" width=\"30%\">Expected July<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>95 Petrol<\/td>\n<td>R13.26<\/td>\n<td>R13.37<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>0.05% Diesel (wholesale)<\/td>\n<td>R11.28<\/td>\n<td>R11.71<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Association said that despite a turbulent period on world markets in the wake of the United Kingdom&#8217;s referendum on leaving the European Union, the average rand\/US dollar exchange rate used to calculate the fuel price strengthened slightly in the rand&#8217;s favour during June.<\/p>\n<p>This, coupled with an oil price which dropped sharply in the wake of the UK referendum result, had had a favourable effect on South African fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>However, the AA warned that ongoing volatility posed a risk of further price hikes. &#8220;Both the basic fuel price and the daily exchange rate saw wild swings either way in June,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We expect further volatility in the short to medium term as world markets continue to digest the consequences of the UK&#8217;s referendum to leave Europe.
