Stocks edged higher. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Monday the rand was trading at R14.57 to the dollar, R19.38 to the pound and R16.23 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-markets-idUSKCN0ZK00B\">Asian shares shrugged off early losses and edged higher on\u00a0Monday, while the Australian dollar was under pressure after\u00a0no clear winner emerged from a weekend election<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0Activity across much of the region was subdued ahead of the U.S. Independence Day holiday, when financial and commodity markets will be closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN0ZJ10Z\">Crude prices extended gains on Monday in Asia, supported by\u00a0comments from the Saudi energy minister saying the oil\u00a0market is heading towards balance<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0Brent crude futures were trading at $50.31 per barrel, almost unchanged from their last settlement. U.S. crude was down 5 cents at $48.94.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news:<\/strong> Violence continues at the Mall of Africa, over a month after it opened. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enca.com\/south-africa\/two-people-shot-dead-outside-mall-of-africa\">This past weekend, two people &#8211; believed to be taxi drivers &#8211; were shot and killed outside the mall<\/a><\/strong>.
