{"id":129292,"date":"2016-07-06T14:52:48","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T12:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=129292"},"modified":"2016-07-06T20:01:55","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T18:01:55","slug":"how-many-mustangs-ford-is-selling-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/129292\/how-many-mustangs-ford-is-selling-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"How many Mustangs Ford is selling in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite its price tag, and what is a really difficult economic climate, the Ford Mustang has managed to sell well since its launch in South Africa at the end of 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Ford noted at its launch in December that approximately 35-40 cars were arriving into the country monthly, with the first batch of cars only available from mid-January 2016 &#8211; and amid a massive pre-order backlog.<\/p>\n<p>Ford said it&#8217;s waiting list could extend into 2018.<\/p>\n<p>According to sales figures released by Naamsa over the past three months &#8211; April to June &#8211; shows that the Mustang has climbed into the top 100 best selling cars list &#8211; despite their price tag &#8211; no thanks to a weakened rand against the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>The motoring fraternity say there is no real competitor in South Africa for the Mustang &#8211; given its muscle car status. The closest thing to a competitor may be the BMW 4 Series &#8211; although a motoring expert noted that &#8216;people don&#8217;t cross-shop a Mustang with a BMW&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Naamsa&#8217;s data shows the following sales figures for the Mustang and BMW 4 Series over the past three months in SA:<\/p>\n<p><strong>April<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ford Mustang was the 59th best-selling vehicle in the country offloading <strong>114 units<\/strong>, while the BMW 4 Series managed 101 units &#8211; ranking 64th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Mustang sold <strong>95 units<\/strong> ranking 63rd best in the country, while BMW&#8217;s 4 Series sold 125 units, ranking just outside the top 50 &#8211; 54th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Mustang sold<strong> 77 units<\/strong> (74th best), while the BMW cracked the top 50 &#8211; 45th selling 171 units.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Mustang2-e1467808143652.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-129312 size-new-size\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Mustang2-640x323.jpeg\" alt=\"Mustang2\" width=\"640\" height=\"323\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 4 Series ranges between a 4201 Coupe pushing 135kW for a starting price of <strong>R571,400,<\/strong> and a 440i Gran Coupe, delivering 240kW, and starting at a price of <strong>R823,500.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/BMW4-1-e1467808725705.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-129320 size-new-size\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/BMW4-1-640x421.jpg\" alt=\"BMW4\" width=\"640\" height=\"421\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Audi S5 Coupe is also in a similar class to the Mustang, according to a motoring expert.
