Weekly election polls run by Ipsos and eNCA show that the Democratic Alliance is\u00a0in the lead\u00a0across the three most hotly-contested metros ahead of the 2016 municipal elections.<\/p>\n

The polls surveyed a demographically representative group of people made up of adults across all racial groups (majority black \u2013 74%) between the ages of 18 and over 50, from low to middle income households.<\/p>\n

In the first week poll, the results showed that the DA would win two of the three most hotly-contested metros \u2013 Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwane, with Johannesburg still under the control of the ANC.<\/p>\n

Now in week 5, the poll results show the DA taking the lead across all three metros, with support growing for the party the most in Nelson Mandela Bay.<\/p>\n

Following protests in Tshwane in late June, support for the DA in the region swelled, while the ANC’s support base declined. In the latest results, this trend has reversed, with the ANC seeing a recovery, and the DA seeing a dip. The latter party is still seen ahead, however.<\/p>\n

Across all metros, there is still a high rate of voters who are undecided (around 16%) which could easily sway the vote in favour of either party. However, in Nelson Mandela Bay, even if all ‘undecided’ voters were for the ANC, the DA would still lead in the metro.<\/p>\n
